Maintenance Mechanic

 

Entry Level Requirements: High school graduate. Minimum of five years working experience in building maintenance and equipment maintenance. Must have excellent mechanical ability and knowledge of hand and power tools. Should have a valid New Jersey driver’s license.

Minimum of five years of working experience in at least two of the following areas: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and/or building maintenance. Previous supervisory experience of other maintenance/facilities related positions  preferred. Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and in verbal communication. Demonstrated basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. High School or GED Diploma required; college degree preferred. NJ Driver’s license. Facilities Related Certifications and Licenses (within 90 days of hire) 

Essential Duties:

  1. Open and close facility (all three buildings) as required by management. 

  2. Ensure compliance of all safety (OSHA), legal, and environmental requirements in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations. 

  3. Respond to all building emergencies, as necessary, and coordinate the safe and prompt restoration of services and must be willing to “get hands dirty,” as necessary.  

  4. Supervise and manage work assignments, performance, and conduct performance reviews of Maintenance Mechanic. 

  5. Ensure that Maintenance Mechanic has the skills, tools, and support required to complete work assignments in an effective and efficient manner.  

  6. May be required to develop and/or negotiate maintenance contracts with vendors, as necessary. 

  7. Oversee the performance of contracted employees, as necessary. 

  8. Perform and/or oversee complex maintenance activities in all areas, including HVAC, plumbing, construction, and electrical activities in collaboration with Maintenance Mechanic or outside vendors. 

  9. May, at times, be required to supervise and train participants assigned to complete repair tasks and projects.  This supervision may include use of tools and maintenance equipment. 

  10. Order and maintain supply inventory of supplies, tools and equipment required for building maintenance. 

  11. Maintain records of production machines and maintenance tools/equipment service logs. 

  12. Maintain cooperative relations with rehabilitation staff and office personnel. 

  13. Attend all meetings as required by the President. 

  14. Attend and participate in meetings required by the Vice President of Operations. 

  15. Make-up jigs and fixtures, adaptive and material handling equipment for participants as needed. 

  16. Keep all building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems in good working order.  Report any repairs that require outside mechanics to the President/CEO. 

  17. Repair and maintain production equipment (i.e. drill presses, etc.). 

  18. Complete any building, equipment and grounds repairs or projects as assigned by the President, Vice President of Operations, or Plant Manager. 

  19. Responsible for securing quotes for building trades and services when external expertise is required. 

  20. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to lift, carry and/or move up to 40 lbs. Must be able to climb steps, balance, kneel, squat or crawl to complete his/her duties. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities to perform his/her essential job duties. Ability to stand for up to 3 hours at a time. Ability to have vision sufficient enough to inspect work products for quality purposes, identify pallet cartons per layer, and the number of layers per pallet.
